About this Program

A Message from Inspector Les Yeo

As the officer in charge of the riot investigation, I believe it is important to state a few facts in order to clarify expectations. We are living in a world of instant gratification and unreal timelines fuelled in part by what I would call the CSI affect. Whether it is television crime programs that produce instant DNA results and solve every crime in under an hour or simply the speed of instant messaging, we have come to believe that everything can be done quickly. While I wish it was true and I understand and sympathize with those who want instant results, it would be irresponsible and negligent of us to rush this massive investigation.

Our diligence and thoroughness will ensure that we lay the highest number of charges and obtain the greatest number of convictions with the most severe penalties. We will not rest or bow to pressure until all the evidence has been examined. We owe it to those who lost property and others who suffered losses to do this right. If you are in favour of speed you are in favour of acquittals and lighter sentences.

Inspector Les Yeo
Officer in Charge, Integrated Riot Investigation Team
