Councillor George Affleck was first elected to Vancouver City Council in 2011 as a member of the Non-Partisan Association (NPA). Now in his second term, he looks forward to continuing his commitment to stand up for the interests of Vancouver residents, taxpayers, and businesses.
In his first term, Councillor Affleck pushed for budget transparency and fiscal restraint at City Hall. He successfully introduced numerous motions, including:
So far in his second term, Councillor Affleck successfully introduced a motion to investigate the creation of an ombudsperson's office, along with a lobbyist registry, that are intended to make City Hall more accountable to the people of Vancouver.
Before entering civic politics, he chaired the False Creek Elementary School Parent Advisory Committee, the Vancouver International Comedy Festival, and the Cooperative Auto Network (now Modo), and served as a director of the Vancouver International Children's Festival.
A local entrepreneur, Councillor Affleck founded and remains president of Vancouver-based marketing firm Curve Communications. He is a published author and former CBC journalist. He lives with his partner, Amanda, and his three kids in Downtown South.
