Southwest Marine Drive Bikeway Improvements

Southwest Marine Drive is a key link between UBC, the University Endowment Lands, commercial centres, the airport, provincial highways, and the regional road network. This busy route is used by people cycling and driving trucks, buses, and private vehicles.

As part of a larger road rehabilitation project, the City will upgrade the bikeway to improve the safety and comfort of people cycling.

The upgrades will:

  • Widen the bike lane to 1.8 m to meet the minimum-width guidelines
  • Add a 0.6-m painted buffer to separate the bike lane from the motor vehicle travel lane
