On Water: Vancouver's Waterway Recreation Strategy

There are many ways to enjoy Vancouver’s inceasingly popular waterways. As more people take to the water for recreation, we want to make sure everyone is enjoying fair and safe access.

We are exploring ways to improve non-motorized boating opportunities throughout city waters. Non-motorized boating activities include any on-water recreation activities involving small watercraft powered by people and other natural elements.

On Water: Vancouver's Waterway Recreation Strategy will help us understand what residents need and value when it comes to non-motorized boating. The strategy will also guide how we plan for:

  • Facilities
  • Water use
  • Environmental and marine protection
  • Waterfront development and park planning
  • On-water recreation opportunities and amenities

Non-motorized boating

  • Canoeing
  • Dragon boating
  • Kayaking
  • Rowing
  • Outrigging
  • Paddle boarding
  • Surf skiing
  • Wind surfing
  • Kite surfing and boarding
  • Small craft sailing

What's happening

Park Board staff will be at non-motorized boating events this summer to promote our first survey.

Visit us at MEC Paddlefest on June 17 or the International Dragon Boat Festival on July 23-25.

We want to hear from you about:

  • What you value about our waterways
  • What activities you do and how often
  • What facilities, beaches, and waterways you use or would like to use
  • Any barriers to participation
  • Your needs and challenges
  • Your priorities for improvement

If you can't make it in person, take our online survey.
